In launching GreenTag™, ecospecifier’s main intention is to enable the global protection of natural systems and assist in the quest to deliver healthier built environments.
ecospecifier global is committed to raise standards for green building materials and methods with the introduction of our four tier GreenTag™ LCA and 3 level GreenRate Certification process.
GreenTag™ is a third party, green building product rating and certification system, underpinned by rigorous scientific and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) testing processes. Its advanced and robust LCA certification methodology, which has been developed exclusively by ecospecifier, is a world first.
Design and development of the GreenTag™ mark has occurred over three years, under the watchful eye of some of the world’s top advisors in eco-labelling standards, green building and green product development.
GreenTag™ rates and positions a product at the top end of the green building market for materials and methods.
GreenTag™ BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD OR PLATINUM is the new benchmark in green product certification already with well over 100 products under certification. It is an ‘Umbrella’ system with 2 separate Certification systems contained in the Standard:
GreenTag™ LCARate PLUS: Is a detailed, audited life cycle assessment (LCA) rating of the product compared to the worst case business as usual (BAU) product commonly available in the market. This rating is reflected by a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum rating.
LCARate is a world first program that is underpinned by the world’s first Building Information Modelling (BIM) based LCA tool and enables industry wide rapid eco-profiling of buildings using branded product LCA from GreenTag™. BIM is the new driving force in productivity in the building industry today and into the future.

GreenTag™ GreenRate: is an accredited third party Certification System for the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and New Zealand (NZGBC) under their new Green Star™ Materials Calculator credits which is a major business driver in the flooring, walls, partition,s ceilings, joinery and furniture sectors. GreenRate certifies products to the new GBCA and NZGBC Materials Calculator rating Levels A, B or C. These ratings represent 100%, 65% and 35% of the credit points in the calculators respectively.
GreenTag™ is already the most accredited third party certifier in Australia, being in accordance with:
- ISO 14024 Type 1 Ecolabel Rating system;
- ISO 14040 compliant peer reviewed and audited LCA; also producing
- ISO 14025 compliant for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs);
- ISO 14065 Compliant for Greenhouse Gas Analysis; and with an
- ISO 9001 Certified Quality Management System.
Product performance: can be easily determined from the simple logo where both LCARate and GreenRate ratings are presented. More detailed summary information can be seen from the Product Scorecard report that shows the results of the 6 key performance indicators for LCARate from product brochures and manufacturer’s website.

Product Category Rules
Product Category Rules provide specific rules for data collection, methodology and calculations for LCA, as well as the requirements and guidelines for developing Type III Environmental Product Declarations compliant with ISO 14025. Ecospecifier will be adopting established rules and facilitating the development of new PCR’s through public stakeholder consultation for use in the GreenTag™ Standard operation.
